The Children’s Understanding of Parents’ Feelings Study

What is the purpose of this study?

The Children’s Understanding of Parents’ Feelings Study aims to better understand children’s thoughts, ideas, and beliefs about their mothers’ emotions, such as anxiety and worry.

Who is eligible to participate?

We’re looking for mothers and their 9- to 17-year-old children to participate.

What is required?

This study will be conducted fully online. First, you’ll complete several questionnaires about your demographic information, your experiences with emotions, and your family’s experiences with various kinds of stressful situations. You will also be asked to complete questionnaires asking about your child’s experiences with different emotions, such as anxiety and sadness. It will take about 20 minutes to complete these questionnaires.

Then, your child will complete several questionnaires, which will ask about how they interpret different situations, their relationship with you, their experiences with emotions (such as anxiety and sadness), and their thoughts, ideas, and beliefs about your emotions. It will take your child about 40 minutes to complete these questionnaires.

Finally, we will randomly invite a subset of children who participate in this study to complete one of the questionnaires again in two to three weeks. This questionnaire asks about your child’s thoughts, ideas, and beliefs about your emotions. It will take your child about 10 minutes to complete this questionnaire.

By participating in this study, you will have an opportunity to enter a raffle to win a set of two $25 Amazon gift cards, one for you and one for your child. You will have a 1 in 5 chance of winning.

If your child is invited to participate in the follow-up questionnaire, they’ll receive a $5 Amazon gift card for participating.
